HELLISSANDUR

Long Totality Duration

At 17:47 UTC the Sun and Moon will align over westernmost Iceland, bringing over 2 full minutes of darkness across our festival site in Snæfellsnes. This duration is significantly long for a viewing location at such a northern latitude.

Rare Celestial Event

The last total solar eclipse in Iceland was 1954 and the next won’t occur until 2196. Plus, the timing of the 2026 eclipse aligns with the peak of the Perseids meteor shower, bringing eclipse chasers a chance to see shooting stars during totality.

Epic Location

Iceland Eclipse will be located in Hellisandur, which is set on the western edge of Iceland’s Snæfellsnes Peninsula. This region offers minimal light pollution and dramatic volcanic landscapes, making it a spectacular eclipse viewing spot.

History

Iceland Eclipse honors a rich tradition of global gatherings that celebrate rare celestial alignments and mark a shared moment of wonder for humankind.
